Find the school district for a home.

A home’s mailing address doesn’t tell the whole story. School boundaries can cross city and township lines, so an Ann Arbor or Dexter address alone isn’t enough. Start with the address checker below, then confirm the assigned school and enrollment details with the district before making your move.

Start with the address

Which district serves this home?

Enter a Washtenaw County street address, including the city or ZIP code. You’ll confirm the address match before we check the district map.

No name or email needed. When you search, the address goes to Washtenaw County’s locator; the matched coordinates go to Michigan GIS. This tool does not save your searches.

How this check works & its limits

We locate the address using the Washtenaw County locator, then check that point against the Michigan Geographic Framework school-district layer. We also check for other mapped districts within 100 metres (about 330 feet).

This is a reference lookup, not a parcel survey, enrollment decision, or guarantee of school placement. A location can be an estimated street position or parcel centre. Map errors, large parcels, new construction, and boundary changes need individual review—even when no boundary warning appears.

Services checked September 17, 2026. The boundary layer reports Framework version 17A; that is a dataset version, not a promise of current enrollment boundaries. Confirm with the district before making a housing or enrollment decision. County data limitations.

From a map result to a confident next step

What to confirm before you move.

The district name is one part of the picture. Use these three checks for each home on your shortlist.

  1. The exact property

Match the house number, street, and unit—not just the ZIP code or listing description. For vacant land, a large parcel, or a home near a boundary, ask for an address or parcel-specific confirmation.

  2. The school & school year

Ask the district which school serves the address for the student’s grade and intended year. Check whether any boundary changes, program applications, or placement rules affect the answer.

  3. The everyday details

Confirm enrollment documents, timing, and transportation directly with the district. A nearby school is not necessarily the assigned school, and a map result does not establish bus eligibility.

A useful question to send the district

“We’re considering a home at [full address]. Could you confirm whether it is in your district, the assigned school for [grade] in [school year], and any enrollment or transportation details we should check?”

Official confirmation, made simpler.

Use these after the address check, or if the lookup cannot resolve a home. Each source answers a different question.

A few common questions.

Why does the district differ from the mailing city?

Mailing addresses, municipal boundaries, and school-district boundaries serve different purposes. A city name or ZIP code is not enough to establish which district serves an individual property. Start with the full address, then verify with the district.

Does this tell me the elementary, middle, and high school?

No. This checker identifies the district shown at the matched point in Michigan’s boundary data. Individual school assignments depend on the district’s attendance areas, grade structure, programs, and school year. Use the confirmation step with the result to check those details.

What if the listing and this result disagree?

Do not choose one as definitive. Check that the matched address is correct, then ask the district to confirm the property in writing. If needed, include the parcel number. Our team can help gather the information and work through the discrepancy.

What if the address is missing or the home is not built yet?

New addresses and vacant land may not be in the locator. Use the parcel number and property location for a manual check with the district. A failed search does not mean the property is outside a district.

Can a student attend a different district?

This tool does not determine eligibility for schools of choice, transfers, or special programs. Ask the receiving district about its current policies, application process, and availability; do not assume an address lookup confirms admission.
